Frequently Asked Questions

Why did you start the Apron Expo?

The Apron Expo was a brief gag in the hit television series The Simpsons. When I found out the Apron Expo was not a real event I was disconsolate and decided to make it myself. The first step was learning to draw. I practiced and honed my illustration skills while coming up with the most clever food puns I could. My years of pun training finally paid off. The first one I came up with was the jar of relish saying “Relish the Day”. It took me an incredibly long time to learn how to draw that first one. After that the illustrations and puns flowed out of me. We will be adding designs created by other Apron artists as they join the Apron Expo — they will be clearly labelled with the artist when they are in the shop.

What are the materials used in the Aprons?

The fabric used in the aprons is an organic cotton canvas. This was chosen because it is heavy enough to block any splashes while cooking and light enough to be comfortable to wear. The white color is natural cotton off-white that is my favorite choice for the aprons I wear. If you really know your fabrics the weight of this canvas is 7.08 oz/yd² (240 g/m²).

The designs are put onto the aprons with direct-to-garment printing. This method puts the dyes directly into the fabric. The graphics will never peel or flake off like other methods. The dye used allows matching the illustration colors perfectly and keeps them vivid.

Our apron fabric source is certified by the Fair Wear Foundation and Sustainable Apparel Coalition to ensure the fabric is ethically produced.

What are the sizes?

The aprons are all one-size, however the neck strap has button holes to adjust the length. The ties on the sides are very long and can either be tied at the back or wrapped around to the front.
